Newcastle University (NCL) realizes that returning to college can seem a challenging prospect for a busy, working adult. That's why we've designed our degree programs specifically for the working adult student, to help you rise to the challenge and prepare you for success in your education and beyond.
Personal Support
NCL has more than thirty years of experience in understanding and developing the support and flexibility that an adult student needs to start at or return to a university. Our team of devoted education professionals is determined to make you successful from your application to your graduation. Your Enrollment Counselor, Financial Counselor, and Academic Counselor will work with you throughout your program to answer all of your questions and provide you with the individual support you need.
Student Success Courses
Your first course for every NCL degree program provides an introduction to NCL and the services available to the adult learner. You'll receive the following benefits to prepare you for academic success:
- Insights into your personal learning style, to assist you in maximizing your study time
- Time and stress management techniques
- Focused activities and resources to refresh your abilities in two vital academic areas—writing and math—as well as an overview of technology
- Guidance in researching and correctly citing outside sources of information
- Information specific to managing your career as a NCL student
- Ongoing support and resources for your continued studies
The course materials and activities support learning outcomes in written and speech communication, mathematics, technology use, critical thinking, and research and offer opportunities to sharpen your college-level skills.
Writing Intensive Courses
NCL's Writing Intensive Courses support our commitment to develop student mastery of written communication, a skill that you will depend on throughout your academic and professional career. Students in all academic disciplines have the opportunity to continuously develop and demonstrate their writing skills through a substantial writing assignment in each required Writing Intensive Course taken at intervals throughout all undergraduate degree programs. Writing assignments submitted in these courses are reviewed to measure progression in writing skills throughout your academic program, giving you the opportunity to gain confidence in your abilities.
