Description
This programme offers opportunities for applicants particularly interested in entrepreneurship – the activity and knowledge needed to identify and develop ideas into viable new enterprises or into innovations in existing organisations. Entrepreneurship is both a possible career path for those who want to establish something of their own, and a way of behaving within organisations.
Entrepreneurship is a minor field offered in combination with the International Business Management MA. This MA provides the general management knowledge and skills needed by today's managers operating in an international context, and is open to applicants with a degree in any discipline.
The Entrepreneurship specialism will help you to:
- develop and explore your ideas for new products, services and process improvements, and understand where such ideas may come from;
- understand the entrepreneurship context (for instance international, local, social or professional managerial) in which you may choose to operate;
- prepare feasibility studies, pitches and proposals for new ventures and innovations, including market research and cash flows;
- understand the processes required for starting a new business and acquire the essential skills in marketing, negotiating, accounting and finance for implementing an innovation in an existing context or launching a new venture; and
- evaluate starting a new enterprise yourself as a possible career choice.

Structure
The International Business Management MA offers the underpinning elements of business management from a national and international context. The business-related areas comprise information management, operations management, marketing, financial resources management, and the management of people and organisations. These areas will be covered in depth to include areas of consultancy, analysis and research skills.
The second stage of the course includes core work on strategy and research, together with a wide range of options covering international business areas and a practical consultancy project. This gives you the opportunity to work for an external client organisation for a period of five to six weeks, enabling you to put your business knowledge and skills into practice with a real company. In addition, your dissertation enables you to research a specific area of interest in depth.
In the Entrepreneurship specialism, you will also:
- work in teams to start up, run and close down a new enterprise, gaining invaluable experience and skills;
- work individually to develop a business proposal for a new enterprise or innovation of your own devising; and
- consider the main processes of entrepreneurship in small, medium and large enterprise environments, depending on your personal and professional context.
