The Diploma of Vocational Education and Training aims to provide a pathway of further learning for those already involved in the delivery of vocational educational courses. Graduates will be able to apply knowledge and skills to make high level, independent judgments, to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate professional work, and to respond to challenges, issues and opportunities for change .

The Diploma of Vocational Education and Training is recognised by DETC as an advanced qualification for those who are already teachers and trainers. 


Assessment methods

Most units have two assessment tasks. There is a strong focus on authentic and professionally-relevant assessment. There are no written examinations.

Teaching methods

Students learn in an interactive online environment with plenty of flexibility to accommodate the competing commitments of busy professionals. There are no compulsory attendance requirements. Units are delivered by distance education and are offered across the University's three study sessions, enabling students to fast track their studies. Units use innovative technology to support student learning and to enable students to have regular engagement with academics and fellow students. Learning is facilitated by highly qualified and supportive academics.

§  Recognition of previous study
Advanced standing may be granted to a student for tertiary studies successfully completed at this university or at another approved tertiary institution including TAFE, private providers or other universities.

 Recognition of professional experience

Advanced standing may be granted on the basis of current professional-level experience, skills or expertise that are deemed to be equivalent to Southern Cross University units available in this course.


The Diploma of Vocational Education and Training has been designed to reflect the roles of experienced practitioners delivering training and assessment services in a registered training organisation (RTO) within the VET sector.

Entry Requirements

Learners must fulfill the following criteria to be permitted entry on to the course:

-NCF/QCF Level 3 or A Level or
-Any overseas qualification deemed equivalent to one of the above.
